Testimony Poem
A poem relating to the journal entry of the Holocaust victim.
Yitskhok Rudashevski
Tuesday, the 24th of June 1941
Getting sadder & sadder
Gunshots in the air
At dawn, gray motorcycle rides through the streets.
Gray square- rimmed helmet, spectacles, greatcoat & rifle.
Helmet flashes coldly & evilly.
German army marching slowly through the streets.
Black mirage of tanks, motorcylces & machines.
Jews were humiliated & exploited
Less food, no future
Hearts crushed, tears come to my eyes
Life becomes difficult, loneliness on the streets
Sad & lonely
Mockery & humiliation
The ghetto has now become a reality
